The Broncos are getting rid of QB Ben DiNucci as they start making changes to the roster before the rookie minicamp

The Broncos began making changes on Wednesday by releasing quarterback Ben DiNucci, as confirmed by a source to The Denver Post.

The next few days are expected to be very active for the later part of the Broncos roster.

The team began making changes on Wednesday by letting go of quarterback Ben DiNucci, as confirmed by a source to The Denver Post.

DiNucci later acknowledged the release on social media, saying, “All part of the journey!! Excited for what’s to come.”

During the 2023 season, DiNucci was on the practice squad and was added to the gameday roster three times. His position on the roster changed this season when Denver acquired Zach Wilson and then drafted Bo Nix, adding two players to the room that already had Jarrett Stidham.

DiNucci signed with the Broncos a year ago after trying out during the team’s rookie minicamp. This year’s minicamp starts Friday and will include draft picks, undrafted signings, tryout players and some veterans.

This weekend will have a lot of natural roster movement.

With DiNucci gone, the Broncos have 80 active players and unsigned draft picks combined. Denver also has 14 signed college free agents, so expect a few more moves in order to reach 90 before the minicamp starts.

More changes are likely to happen during or after the minicamp if a rookie or veteran tryout player earns a spot on the offseason roster.

Apart from the three quarterbacks on the roster, Denver also has John Matocha from Colorado School of Mines joining the weekend minicamp as a tryout player.

DiNucci shows how beneficial the rookie minicamp weekend can be for players, even if they’re not technically rookies. He played in three games for Dallas in 2020, then had a successful season for the Seattle Sea Dragons of the XFL last spring. After that, he got a tryout invite from Denver, was signed immediately after that, and spent the entire 2023 NFL season on Denver’s practice squad.
