One of Donald Trump's lawyers in the immunity case expressed his enthusiasm for the Supreme Court decision after the oral arguments

An attorney representing Donald Trump in his immunity case said he was “excited” for the Supreme Court’s decision after oral arguments.

Will Scharf, a member of former President Donald Trump’s legal team representing him in his presidential immunity case, told Fox News’ Martha MacCallum on Thursday afternoon that he’s “excited” for the Supreme Court to render its decision after the two sides participated in oral arguments that morning.

“We felt this morning’s arguments went really well. And I say that primarily because it was clear that the justices were deeply concerned about the future of the office of the president, about the future of the American presidency,” remarked Scharf at the outset of his conversation with MacCallum. “If they didn’t provide some sort of legal safeguard against exactly the sort of political prosecutions we’re now seeing brought against President Trump. So we were heartened by the fact that the justices were taking these core constitutional questions very seriously, and we’re excited to see what they come down with, probably before the end of the term at the end of June.”

Scharf later boasted that “the justices were deeply skeptical” of the idea that presidents are not immune from prosecutions for acts related to their “core presidential responsibilities.”

“We feel as though our arguments were largely vindicated by what transpired in front of the Supreme Court today,” he explained.

Asked for predictions about the outcome of the case before the interview’s conclusion, Scharf opined that “it certainly seems that the Supreme Court wants to ensure that the system we end up with is a system that preserves presidential prerogatives, that preserves the ability of the president to respond decisively to the situations that arise during the course of a presidency. And we think that ultimately will favor our side of the coin versus the special counsel.”

He also submitted that “if any scope of immunity is recognized,” the “most natural course would be a remand back to the lower courts for further fact finding and decision making to implement that scope of immunity.” Such a decision would likely delay and, in the event Trump wins the presidency, potentially even mean the end Special Counsel Jack Smith’s 2020 election case.
