CNN’s Erin Burnett took a break on Monday’s OutFront to compare how Donald Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, are using their time during his criminal business fraud trial.
“She’s currently promoting a new jewelry line, specifically a necklace for Mother’s Day, priced at $245,” Burnett said. “She’s calling it ‘Her Love and Gratitude.’ There’s no indication on the websites that the money raised is going to charity or any other cause. Do you have any idea why she’s selling this jewelry? Is it just for her own profit? Is she trying to raise money for Trump’s legal defense, as he’s been repeatedly trying to do? What’s the purpose?” Burnett asked Stephanie Grisham, the former first lady’s ex-chief of staff. “I can’t help but chuckle at the idea that she might be raising money for his defense. I’m sorry, but that’s definitely not the case,” Grisham said, continuing:Grisham added, “And, then, another thing that you had said at the beginning of your segment is that, you know, she finds this to be a disgusting trial, or I forget what the word is. But, if that were the case, she would at least put that out on X. She would say something. Melania Trump absolutely does what she wants to do. Erin Burnett compared how Donald Trump and Melania are using their time during his criminal trial.
Number one, they’re using so many people who are contributing, you know, to the president and to his — or, former president — and to his campaign for those things. But, she’s doing it for herself, and had I been advising her, I would have said a couple of things. Number one, “This is the first day of your husband’s criminal trial and you’re going to hawk some jewelry? Probably not a very good look.”
And then yeah, I would have at least said, “Hey, are we going to give this to some kind of an initiative for children?” Or, you know, her mother did just pass, so perhaps it would go to some kind of a, whether it’s Alzheimer’s, cancer, something, some proceeds. But instead, it just says, “Here you go, buy this for $245.”
