The US no longer wants to protect all NATO allies, according to Borrell

The US is no longer willing to “defend all NATO allies in every situation,” said Josep Borrell, the EU's top diplomat, leading the EU to boost its own defense capabilities. ⠀ “NATO is at the heart of our collective security.

Josep Borrell, the EU's top diplomat, stated that the US is no longer willing to “defend all NATO allies in every situation,” which is prompting the EU to enhance its own defense abilities.

“NATO is at the center of our collective security. But NATO must also recognize a changing world and change with it. It was previously believed that strengthening strategic European responsibility for its own security would damage NATO and lead to disunity with the United States… This risk of disunity no longer comes from the European side, it comes from US policy,” he said at a forum in Brussels.

He mentioned that during trips to the United States, American politicians urged Europe to take on more responsibility for its own security.American politicians themselves suggested that Europe should take greater responsibility for its own security.

“The other side on the other side of the Atlantic can no longer maintain its commitment to engage in the defense commitment of all NATO allies in all circumstances,” he added.
