Fox Business presenter Maria Bartiromo talked about the aftermath of ex-President Donald Trump’s remarks on abortion, and invited Rep. Greg Murphy (R-NC) to discuss that and other issues. But when Murphy repeated a popular false claim from the political right, Bartiromo didn't challenge him.
Trump's statement faced opposition from various groups in the abortion rights debate, including those who are against abortion. After presenting a recent Fox News poll showing that 65% of respondents believed abortion access should be nationwide, and 41% said it would be “extremely important” for their vote in November, Bartiromo asked Murphy how significant he thought the issue would be:
Bartiromo: Is this going to be, do you think, a big issue in the 2024 election?
Murphy: Yeah, it’s going to be a big issue every time because you have folks on, really on both sides, really probably more Democrat that wants abortion literally when it’s coming, when the child is coming out of the birth canal, always to force the issue because it’s an emotionally charged issue. And that’s what elections are. They’re emotionally charged events.
The claim about Democrats supporting unrestricted abortion up to birth or even killing a baby after birth has been definitively false debunked numerous times , including when Trump made the statement on Monday.
