The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra is presenting the third part of its free Academy Concert series

The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra will perform the third installment of its Academy Concert series Thursday.

The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra's next Academy Concert series performance is on Thursday, and it will be the third one.

The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Greensburg Garden and Civic Center, and it's titled “Dances and Madrigals.” It's open to the public for free, but they will accept donations.

The Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra was established in 1969 by local musicians. The aim of the Academy Concert series is to introduce audiences to more intimate concerts featuring a wide range of music. The series showcases the orchestra’s Academy Quartet, consisting of Jorie Butler-Geyer and Leah Givelber on violin, Warren Davidson on viola, and Cecilia Caughman on cello.

The performance on Thursday will showcase the work of four composers — Lera Auerbach, Bohuslav Martinu, Felix Medelssohn, and Joseph Haydn. Auerbach’s “Three Dances in the Old Style for Violin and Cello” and Martinu’s “Three Madrigals for Violin and Viola” inspired the title of the performance.

The Academy Concert series started in late October and will end with a performance titled “Trio Sine Nomine” at 7:30 on May 23.
