CNN's data reporter described the latest swing state poll as a significant setback for Biden

CNN senior date reporter Harry Enten called a new swing state poll at least partially an “absolute disaster” for President Joe Biden and his campaign.

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten called a new swing state poll at least partially an “absolute disaster” for President Joe Biden and his campaign.

New survey data from The New York Times, Siena College and The Philadelphia Inquirer found Donald Trump leading Biden among likely voters in five swing states.

Where Biden should be most concerned, Enten said Monday, is in Sun Belt swing states like Nevada, Georgia, and Arizona. According to survey, Trump holds a lead of 13, 9, and 6 points in those states.

“Frankly, for the Joe Biden campaign, these numbers are an absolute disaster,” Enten said, adding the Trump campaign “loves” those “huge” leads, which he said has been similar to other polling coming out of Sun Belt states.

Biden is doing better in the Greak Lake battleground states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Trump leads in the first two states by one point while Biden leads in Michigan by one point in the new poll, all of which falls within the poll’s margin of error.

“This is something the Joe Biden campaign can work with,” Enten said of those numbers.

The data reporter chalked some of Trump’s success up to the “Trump coalition” becoming more diverse and leading on issues like inflation, jobs, and the border. The new polling data found more Trump voters are non-white than in previous years.

“The Trump coalition is becoming more diverse and of course those Sun Belt battleground states are more diverse than the Great Lake battleground states,” Enten said.

He gave the advantage to Trump currently on prospective electoral college votes, but said Biden still has a path to the needed 270.
