Author Mary Trump claimed during an MSNBC interview that her uncle former President Donald Trump would come out of prison a changed man.

Mary joined MSNBC anchor Alex Witt for an interview on Saturday to discuss the recent development in Trump’s New York criminal trial. Trump’s niece shared her thoughts on how Trump would handle be imprisoned if he is found in violation of his gag order.

Trump faces criminal charges for allegedly falsifying business documents regarding hush money payments during the 2016 election season. Moreover, the former president was given a gag order by Judge Juan Merchan to not attack witnesses or members of the jury. He has been found in violation of the gag order but has only been given fines.

Mary Trump told the MSNBC anchor that she believes Trump would not be able to survive in prison without his phone and that he would come out a “changed man.”

WITT: What do you make of your uncle saying he’d be proud to go to jail over the violations, potentially for Judge Merchan’s gag order? I mean, first of all, do you believe him? Would he be scared? Or would he be comfortable playing the martyr from a jail cell?

TRUMP: I think that it’s absurd for anybody to think that he would willingly go into to jail, for even for a night. Even for an afternoon. Honestly, and hopefully, if he ever is sent to jail for breaking the gag order, which he’s now done 11 times, it’s for real. It’s not that he’s going to some suite and some fancy hotel that’s just guarded. He is there in his cell without his phone, just like any other American would be.

He would come out a changed man. And honestly, I just don’t think he could handle it. He would love the martyrdom, but I don’t believe for a second that he is willing to go to jail. For real. No way.
