London Drugs president apologizes for cyber breach, no proof customer data was taken

London Drugs says all stores had reopened by Tuesday

The head of London Drugs has issued a letter saying sorry for a cybersecurity event that led the company to close stores for over a week, but he states there's no proof customer databases were compromised.

The letter from Clint Mahlman says the Richmond-based company is still looking into the April 28 incident, and if it finds that any customer information was affected, it would notify people.

Mahlman says London Drugs collaborates with experts to ensure its systems are secure, and independent auditors regularly assess the company’s security practices.

But he says no organization can be completely safe from quickly evolving cybersecurity threats and breaches carried out by “sophisticated” attackers.

He explains that the retailer and pharmacy immediately closed all 79 of its stores throughout Western Canada once the “suspicious activity” was discovered, and the reopening process followed the company’s established protocols.

London Drugs states all stores had reopened by Tuesday.

Mahlman expressed gratitude to customers for their patience, as well as London Drugs employees for dedication they showed during a challenging time.

“We even had experienced retired employees show up to lend a hand given their considerable experience and historical knowledge,” the letter adds.
