  • SIA and Scoot, as the first airlines operating out of Changi Airport, will receive sustainable aviation fuel produced at Neste’s refinery in Singapore.

Neste and the Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group have signed an agreement to purchase 1,000 tons of neat Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™. Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ is the type of sustainable aviation fuel ordered by Singapore Airlines.SIA and Scoot will be the first carriers to receive sustainable aviation fuel produced at Neste’s refinery in the country, at Changi Airport.

Neste will blend the sustainable aviation fuel with regular jet fuel following safety specifications, and deliver the blended jet fuel to Changi Airport’s fuel hydrant system in two batches – one in the second quarter of 2024 and the other in the fourth quarter of this year.

This will mark the first direct supply of Neste’s sustainable aviation fuel to airlines at Changi Airport, showcasing their end-to-end supply chain capabilities in Singapore.

Neste’s sustainable aviation fuel is made from 100% renewable waste and residue raw materials, and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% over the fuel’s life cycle. It can seamlessly integrate with existing aircraft engines and fuelling infrastructure when blended with regular jet fuel.

This agreement with Neste is an important step in the SIA Group’s goal to have a minimum of 5% sustainable aviation fuel in their total fuel uplift by 2030. Close collaboration with partners and stakeholders, both in Singapore and globally, plays a crucial role in their long-term decarbonisation goals. A more environmentally friendly aviation industry will ensure that future generations continue to benefit from air travel.Ms Lee Wen Fen, Chief Sustainability Officer at Singapore Airlines, said that the agreement with Neste is a significant milestone in their journey towards sustainable aviation.

Alexander Kueper, Vice President Renewable Aviation at Neste, expressed pride in Singapore Airlines and Scoot being the first customers to benefit from their integrated supply capabilities into Changi Airport. He hopes that the delivery of sustainable aviation fuel to Changi Airport and the recently announced national target will encourage wider adoption of sustainable aviation fuel in the broader Asia Pacific region. This was a statement by Alexander Kueper, Vice President Renewable Aviation at Neste.
