For the 2024 Rockies, it's been a series of unfortunate events.

For the 2024 Rockies, it's been a series of unfortunate events.

On Saturday at dank and dreary PNC Park, Pinch-hitter Jack Suwinski hit a walk-off single to help the Pirates win 1-0 against Colorado. Suwinski's hit was off reliever Nick Mears’ 0-1 fastball into left field.

Despite a strong start by pitcher Austin Gomber, the Rockies lost 1-0 to the Pirates, with Jared Jones dominating their batting lineup. Colorado could only manage one hit and struck out 11 times.

Former Rockies fan favorite Connor Joe led the ninth inning with a single and eventually scored the winning run for the Pirates. The Rockies' struggles on the field were apparent as they ultimately lost the game.

Pirates' pitcher Jared Jones almost had a perfect game, with the Rockies only managing one hit against him. Elias Diaz hit a double in the fifth, but the Rockies couldn't capitalize on it.

At 22 years and 237 days old, Jones became the youngest major league pitcher to achieve at least seven innings with one or fewer hits allowed and 10 or more strikeouts since 2018.

Gomber also pitched exceptionally well, matching Jones' performance. He pitched six scoreless innings and managed to lower his ERA to 3.79.

The Rockies' defense provided strong support for Gomber, making key plays to prevent the Pirates from scoring.

The Rockies won Game 1 of the series but were unable to secure consecutive victories.

The Rockies will try to win their first season series on Sunday after their previous victory in Game 1 of the three-game series.
