Walmart and Sam’s Club are dedicated to making it easier for everyone to make sustainable choices. They know that 78% of consumers care about sustainability, so they use their wide influence to provide different ways to be sustainable. This includes creating new products, using responsible packaging, starting recycling programs, and offering affordable options that encourage eco-friendly habits every day, not just on Earth Day.

Energy Heroes: Saving Money and the Planet

Working with well-known brands like Tide’s “Collab for Cold” campaign shows this commitment. Washing clothes in cold water saves energy and money, as stated by Procter & Gamble. Walmart stores and clubs also have a large variety of Energy Star certified products and are investing in community solar programs that help low-to-moderate-income households. For Walmart Plus members, electric vehicles used for InHome delivery services are reducing the company’s environmental impact.

Right-Sized Packaging: Less Waste, More Convenience

Walmart is actively collaborating with suppliers to reduce packaging waste. The company got rid of Styrofoam packaging for its own brand microwaves, saving about 2,000 metric tons of plastic every year. Snorkel sets now come in reusable travel bags, and Walmart's own brand bedding will have plastic-free packaging by 2025. When it comes to e-commerce, they are focused on using the right-sized packaging, combining shipments, and using paper mailers for online orders.

New Life: Circularity in Action

Walmart and Sam’s Club support circularity by giving used materials a new purpose. The Trashie Take Back Bag program lets customers easily donate unwanted clothing and textiles to be reused or recycled. They are using recycled rubber in home and garden products such as Member’s Mark Rubber Mulch and Ground Smart Black Rubber Nugget Mulch.

Built for Better: Sustainable Shopping Made Easy

Created in 2021, Built for Better is an online platform that makes it easier to find sustainable products that meet trusted standards for personal well-being and environmental responsibility. Additionally, Walmart Restored, introduced in 2022, allows customers to buy refurbished products from qualified sellers, promoting waste reduction and affordability.

These changes show Walmart and Sam’s Club's dedication to dealing with plastic waste and encouraging a culture of sustainable living, which benefits customers, communities, and the environment.
