Several early season fires are currently happening in the Cariboo and Prince George areas of British Columbia

The Wildfire Service says the largest of the fires is the Burgess Creek wildfire, located about 45 kilometres south of Quesnel

QUESNEL – The wildfire season is starting early in the central Interior and Cariboo areas of British Columbia.

The B.C. Wildfire Service has reported multiple fires to the south of Quesnel and to the east of Vanderhoof.

According to the Wildfire Service, the largest of the fires is the Burgess Creek wildfire, which is situated approximately 45 kilometers south of Quesnel and is currently estimated to be around 50 hectares in size.

The Prince George Fire Centre has reported two fires, each about eight hectares in size, located roughly four kilometers east of Vanderhoof.

The Wildfire Service has reported 112 active fires in B.C., with nine new fires in the past 24 hours, none of which are listed as significant.

The B.C. government has stated that last year's wildfire season was the most damaging in the province's history, with over 2.84 million hectares of land and forest burned, leading to the evacuation of tens of thousands of people.
