Vancouver Folk Festival, Rifflandia and Red Truck concert series announce initial lineups

Early lineup announcements for folk fest, and more

The first batch of summer festivals and concert series are revealing the list of performers and it looks promising for fans of music in the sun.

Anticipate more announcements to start coming in as the days get longer and the temperature rises.

Because Canada enjoys its seasonal celebrations and B.C. is home to some of the nation's best. Here are a few updates, with more to come as they are revealed.


The Wood Brothers

Talk about the festival making a comeback.

Just a year ago, this long-standing event seemed like it was about to end. Then a last-minute event took place with a good lineup and strong attendance. Now the 47th annual Vancouver International Folk Music Festival has released its list of artists and it's one of the event's best.

Alternative roots duo the Wood Brothers, New Orleans soul legend John Boutté, traditional banjo and fiddle duo Allison de Groot and Tatiana Hargreaves, and blues singer Ndidi O are just some of the many talented musicians making the journey to the beautiful seaside setting this July. Red Truck Beer Truck Stop Concert Series

Where: Red Truck Beer Brewery, 295 E. 1st Ave.

Back for its eighth year, this concert series that takes place right on the grounds of Red Truck Beer brewery has become a surefire draw for fans of local and international feel-good sounds.

Situated conveniently close to the Science World station on transit and only a short distance from the active Olympic Village center, the event combines music, food, and – obviously – beer with performances from artists such as Daniel Wesley, the Boom Booms, and LowDown Brass Band on June 15, Jeremie Albino on July 20, and more TBA.


Born Ruffians

Rifflandia

When: Sept. 13 – 15

Where: Matullia Lands, Rock Bay, Vancouver Island

Relocated to a single site to make enjoying the multiple stages a little easier is Vancouver Island's Rifflandia.

Known for booking big names over its three-day run, the Friday headliners have just been announced. Hip hop fans can enjoy Ja Rule, dance to C & C Music Factory, and get their indie rock fix with Born Ruffians and many more. Saturday's lineup is released on May 9 and Sunday's on May 30.
