The United Nations Global Compact, the biggest corporate sustainability initiative, has revealed the start of the 2024 SDG Pioneers campaign today. The SDG Pioneers is made to acknowledge outstanding individuals in the business community who are guiding the way in moving forward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SDG Pioneers wants to acknowledge business leaders who are showing innovation, impact, and dedication to achieving the SDGs, inspiring others to do the same. By showcasing these pioneers, the program wants to demonstrate the important role that businesses play in pushing sustainable development and encouraging more involvement and action across industries and regions.
Sanda Ojiambo, CEO and Executive Director of the UN Global Compact, expressed excitement for this year’s launch and highlighted its significance in promoting sustainable business practices worldwide in a statement:
“As we deal with complicated global challenges, it's becoming more obvious that businesses have a crucial role in promoting sustainable development. The SDG Pioneers campaign works as a platform to celebrate the outstanding efforts of individuals who are leading the way towards a more sustainable and fair future. By acknowledging these pioneers, we hope to inspire others to adopt the principles of the UN Global Compact and take meaningful action towards achieving the SDGs.“
Nominations for the SDG Pioneers are open to all individuals working within companies participating in the UN Global Compact. Nominees will be evaluated based on their contributions to moving forward one or more of the SDGs through innovative solutions, partnerships, advocacy efforts, or other impactful initiatives.
The chosen SDG Pioneers will get global recognition and visibility for their accomplishments, as well as chances to interact with peers, share best practices, and further enhance their impact on sustainable development.
