Colorado's reintroduced wolves have been roaming across the state, with one wolf's tracking collar no longer working, according to wildlife officials.
There are 12 wolves in Colorado, 10 of which were released in December, and they have been present in various areas of the state. A new map shows the wolf activity in Colorado, released on Wednesday. Colorado Parks and Wildlife released the new map of wolf activity.
A map by Colorado Parks and Wildlife displays the areas where collared wolves were active in the mountains between Feb. 28, 2024, and March 25, 2024.
The wolves' range extended widely from the Wyoming border near Walden to just south of Avon, and from Meeker in the west to east of Granby.
The map The map shows which watersheds the wolves have been present in since Feb. 28. If a watershed is on the map, at least one wolf has entered the area in the last month.
The wolves may or may not remain in those areas, and they may not have traveled every part of the watershed, as per CPW.
While a wolf was recorded in February crossing the Continental Divide into Larimer County, it has since moved back west across the divide and out of the Front Range county, as indicated by the map. Wildlife officials confirmed the wolf was still alive by spotting it from an airplane. Another wolf's collar is only partially working and may stop soon, according to CPW officials. All 12 wolves are alive, and there have been no reported kills or injuries to livestock, as stated in the release.
