Air Liquide and Vopak have made a deal to work together on creating and running infrastructure for importing ammonia, converting it, and distributing hydrogen in Singapore.
Ammonia is seen as a low-carbon fuel for making power and for the maritime industry. It is an efficient way to store and move hydrogen. By using the existing global chain for making, moving, and using ammonia, it can be turned into hydrogen to help make industry and transportation more environmentally friendly.
The two companies will look into making low-carbon ammonia supply chains in Singapore, and may build facilities to convert ammonia into hydrogen, store ammonia, and distribute low-carbon hydrogen using pipelines. This work supports Singapore’s goal to use advanced hydrogen technology to make low-carbon hydrogen.
Zhang Xi, who works for Air Liquide in Southeast Asia, says,Air Liquide is dedicated to working with other companies like Vopak to create new and environmentally-friendly ways to support Singapore's effort to become more eco-friendly. Air Liquide is building a big plant in Belgium to turn low-carbon ammonia into low-carbon hydrogen, with the goal of reducing carbon pollution in industry and other hard-to-change sectors.”
