Newsmax host Greg Kelly interviewed Donald Trump on Thursday night and told the former president that prominent Democrats are trying to facilitate his death.
Hours earlier, Trump’s Manhattan criminal trial adjourned for the day. The former president has pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to obscure hush money payments. Separately, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments on whether Trump has prosecutorial immunity from acts he committed during his presidency. That case stems from Trump’s federal criminal indictment in Washington, D.C., where he has been charged over his attempt to subvert the 2020 election.
On Greg Kelly Reports, the host cited legislation introduced by Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) that would strip Secret Service protection from convicted felons.
“He wants to put you in prison without Secret Service,” Kelly told Trump. “I don’t know if you’ve reacted to it yet, but he’s got a proposal that would terminate Secret Service. Now, I don’t think you’re going to jail. But let’s face it, theoretically, it could happen. He wants to deprive you of your Secret Service if you go to prison. These Democrats want you dead – you realize that?”
“Yeah,” Trump replied. “Because I’m the one that turns things around. I’m the one that had the best economy in history. I’m the one that had the best border in history. I’m the one that had the low energy prices and we were respected all over the world, and we were doing things like nobody’s ever done. And we had the best economy ever.”
Kelly isn’t the first conservative to speculate about Thompson’s motives.
“They want President Trump dead,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) said on Monday. “They want to lock him up in jail for the rest of his life, so that he dies in jail, and they want to take away his Secret Service protection so that he is murdered somewhere in jail, possibly. This is how serious they are.”
