10 Coloradans might get the chance to have license plates with phrases related to cannabis

Coloradans can bid for the rights to cannabis-themed license plates in a state auction until 4:20 p.m. on Saturday.

The yearly auction presents 10 phrases, such as 420, COHEMP, HASHISH, HILIFE, and REEFER. The proceeds will support people with disabilities through grants and state programs.

The state has raised over $96,000 since the auction began in 2021, according to a news release from the governor’s office.

Bidders can win the right to use the marijuana phrases on their state license plates or purchase a novelty plate to retain the rights to use the phrase in the future. Winners could also opt to resell the license plate phrase through the state’s Disability Funding Committee.

Last year, the DANK license plate sold for $600 and MJ for $520. Those interested in participating in the auction can do so at coloradoplates.org/collections/current-auction.

“The Colorado Disability Funding Committee has been very helpful to nonprofits and local partners statewide working to enhance the lives and opportunities for Coloradans with disabilities. This auction is a meaningful way to celebrate Colorado’s cannabis industry while making a positive impact on others,” Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera said in a written statement.

Officials are also reminding Coloradans not to drive while under the influence of marijuana, as mentioned in the news release.
