Two 19-year-old Premier League soccer players were taken into custody by police on Wednesday following accusations of rape.
One man was held by police on Saturday for allegedly assisting in the rape, while the other was arrested on Sunday for suspected involvement in the rape. They are both thought to be members of the same soccer club.
The allegations were made in a police report filed on Friday, the same day as the reported incident. The initial arrest took place at the club's stadium where the player was questioned by police before being arrested.
Both individuals have been released on police bail while investigations continue.
According to a police spokesperson who spoke with the BBC,: “Officers have arrested two men following a report of a rape. A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. A second 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape. Both men have since been released on police bail.”
