Inspecting the tunnels will cause sections of U.S. Highway 6 in Clear Creek Canyon to close for four nights in late April, according to transportation officials who made the announcement on Friday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation will be inspecting tunnels along U.S. 6 from Interstate 70 to Colorado Highway 119 on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24, leading to the closure of this highway section from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. both days, as stated in a department news release.
The following week, inspections will close the next part of US 6 between Highway 119 and Colorado Highway 93 on Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30 from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m., according to the release.
Drivers can use I-70 as an alternative route during the overnight closures.
If weather becomes a problem, the schedule may change, officials said on Saturday. Online closure information is available for drivers to access. cotrip.org.
