Colorado placed Kyle Freeland on the 15-day injured list on Friday with a left elbow strain, a move retroactive to April 16.

Last year, the Rockies had a lot of pitching injuries which led to a 103-loss season, and now they have their first major health problem with a pitcher in 2024.

On Friday, Colorado decided to put Kyle Freeland on the injured list for 15 days due to a left elbow strain, which goes back to April 16.

Freeland has not been doing well this season, with 0 wins and 3 losses in four starts, and an ERA of 13.21. In the last game, he allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings in a 5-0 loss in Toronto. In his last start in Toronto, he hurt his right shoulder while running in a 2-1 loss to Philadelphia the next day, when Phillies right-hander Jeff Hoffman landed on him in a play at the plate in the ninth inning. The injured list designation on Friday is not related to that incident.

The team has been struggling in the first month of the season, with a record of 4-15, which is the worst start in the history of the club. Freeland hasn't been helping, as he couldn't finish the fourth inning in his first two starts. On Opening Day in Arizona, he gave up 10 runs in two-plus innings in a historic 16-1 loss, and then the Cubs scored nine runs off him (seven earned) in his next game in Chicago. In response to this, the Rockies have called up Noah Davis from Triple-A to take Freeland’s scheduled start on Saturday at Coors Field against the Mariners. Davis has a record of 0-4 with a 9.00 ERA in his career.
