Shark Tank’s Kevin O’Leary took aim at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) in an interview and claimed the New York district she represents “looks like a third world country.”
The entrepreneur spoke with Tyrus for his Outkick show Maintaining with Tyrus in an episode that will air in its entirety on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET. Speaking about Ocasio-Cortez in a clip from the chat, O’Leary called her a “successful politician,” but a “horrible manager.”
“I look at AOC, what an incredible, incredibly successful politician she is and what a horrific manager she is. Her jurisdiction looks like a third world country, and yet she’s great at social media and making outrageous statements and getting $5 at a time on, you know, every way she can on social,” he said. “Good for her. But wow, look what she did when Amazon came knocking for 10,000 jobs.”
Ocasio-Cortez represents the 14th District in New York, which covers parts of the Bronx and Queens.
O’Leary previously called for a debate with Ocasio-Cortez and accused her of helping to make New York “uninvestable.” He said she’s “great at killing jobs.”
In 2019, she called for higher taxes and stricter regulation for a proposed Amazon headquarters in New York. The company abandoned the plans. Ocasio-Cortez said afterwards that activists managed to beat Amazon’s “corporate greed.”
In his chat with Tyrus, O’Leary said the “great thing” about democracy is being able to replace ineffective leaders.
“Not that she isn’t just great as a politician. There are countries that have weak leaders. There are states that have bad governors. I think people the great thing about democracy is say we can do better right up my head, let’s do better,” he said.

Tyrus asked O’Leary even he’d invest in Ocasio-Cortez if she was a business since he believes she’s a “great politician.”
“Let me be specific, I wouldn’t hire her to manage a candy store,” he said.
