An Arizona elections official focused on Elon Musk concerning a post indicating a major election conspiracy before the November election.

“Very worrying,” Musk wrote this week on X, previously known as Twitter, in response to a tweet from an account called End Wokeness. The post claimed that the number of people registering without an ID is increasing significantly in swing states like Arizona, Texas, and Pennsylvania.

The account stated, “The number of voters registering without a photo ID is RISING in 3 crucial swing states: Arizona, Texas, and Pennsylvania. Since the beginning of 2024: TX: 1,250,710 PA: 580,513 AZ: 220,731.”

Musk's apparent support of the message was subjected to an eight point fact check by Stephen Richter, an election official in Arizona who previously sued Kari Lake.

“Hello Elon! The post you’re quoting seems to imply that, based on Social Security Administration data, 220,731 illegal immigrants have registered to vote in Arizona since January 1, 2024,” Richter explained, then detailing why this large number is not accurate.

According to Richter, fewer than 40,000 individuals have registered to vote in Maricopa County, and there has been a decline in voter rolls from 2020 to 2024.

Validating citizenship for voters is carried out through the Motor Vehicle Divisions, but Richter also explained a “Federal Only” list for individuals whose citizenship cannot be verified.

“If the voter cannot provide documented proof of citizenship, but still declares under penalty of law that they are a citizen, they are included in what is known as the ‘Federal Only’ list in Arizona,” the elections official stated. “In Maricopa County, there are 20,768 registered voters on the Federal Only list. There are about 30,000 for all of Arizona. These individuals affirm that they are U.S. Citizens, but they have not provided documented proof.”

According to Richter, most of these specific voters are “largely college-aged students (possibly who don’t have immediate access to a birth certificate).”

He informed Musk that there is no evidence that nearly 250,000 illegal immigrants have registered to vote in Arizona.

“I hope this clarifies things,” Richter wrote to Musk. “We admired the recent rocket launch that we could see in the Arizona sky. Thank you for all the cool scientific activities you continue to pursue.”
