T.W. Shannon, the ex-Republican leader of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, labeled former President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden “enemies of Israel” when appearing on The Faulkner Focus Thursday.
“It seems like our president is involving politics in a very significant matter. We all know he doesn't support Israel. He's similar to his predecessor, Barack Obama. I believe they can almost be seen as enemies of Israel at this moment,” Shannon stated.
He said further:
The truth is, they’ve abandoned our longstanding support and friendship that we’ve had with Israel. Yes, he’s talking — he’s the most duplicitous president, maybe in American history — because he’s saying one thing. But doing politics, he’s definitely playing politics during a presidential year, trying to pretend like they’re support for Israel. But ultimately, the reason [Benjamin] Netanyahu canceled the original meeting is because he knows that the support among Democrats for Israel is waning in a big way. They’ve abandoned him. And I think it’s a mistake long term, not just for Israel, but for the American people.
Shannon’s conversational partner, former New York state senator David Carlucci, disagreed with this description of Biden, arguing that his 2024 opponent, Donald Trump, has the more risky approach to the Israel-Hamas conflict.
“What we see is Biden trying to achieve peace, trying to move towards a resolution. There’s no easy answers here. There’s no magical solution. Then you compare it to the GOP nominee, Donald Trump,” Carlucci said. “And what is he saying? He’s saying just end the war. You know, end it soon. No talk about hostages, no talk about how you get there. It looks like Donald Trump is more of a publicity stunt than a foreign policy. If you question and try to get what he actually is going to do, no one can tell you.”
Notably, Trump opined that Israel was “losing the PR war” on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show Thursday.
“You’ve got to get it over with, and you have to get back to normalcy. And I’m not sure that I’m loving the way they’re doing it, because you’ve got to have victory. You have to have a victory, and it’s taking a long time,” said Trump.
