The Pittsburgh Pirates completed another trade on Tuesday, obtaining catcher Joey Bart from the San Francisco Giants in return for minor league pitcher Austin Strickland.
In a related move, pitcher Colin Selby was removed from the team's 40-man roster.
Joey Bart, who was once seen as a top prospect and potential successor to Buster Posey, is 27 years old and has played in 162 games for the Giants over four seasons, with a batting average of .219, 11 home runs, and 16 RBIs.
He was part of San Francisco's initial roster in 2023 and played 30 games with the team, achieving a .207 batting average with five RBIs. Additionally, Bart played 60 games with Triple-A Sacramento, hitting .248 with six home runs, 28 RBIs, and a .750 OPS.
Strickland, aged 21, was selected by the Pirates as the 227th pick in the 2023 MLB Draft from Kentucky.
He has not yet started his professional baseball career.
Selby, 26, debuted in MLB with the Pirates in August last year and participated in 21 games, starting five with a 2-2 record and a 9.00 ERA over 24 innings pitched.
He was recently demoted to Triple-A Indianapolis on March 12.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Pirates swapped traded pitcher Jackson Wolf for infielder Kervin Pichardo with San Diego.
The Pirates’ 40-man roster is now at full capacity.
