Man accused of involvement in Victoria hostel stabbing

One man was killed and a second victim was taken to the hospital with life-changing injuries, as stated by the police

A man has been accused of committing aggravated assault in connection with a stabbing at a hostel in Victoria on Sunday morning.

Police were called to a report of a stabbing around 4 a.m. in the 700-block of Pandora Avenue, near Blanshard Street.

One man was killed and a second victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that would change his life, according to the police.

Robert Henry Travers was arrested at the scene early Sunday.

He has been accused of committing one count of aggravated assault in connection to the surviving victim, as confirmed by Victoria police on Tuesday. No additional information will be disclosed, stated the department.

Travers, who is in his 60s, was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon for a bail hearing.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit is still actively investigating the death.

The area around the Ocean Island Inn was secured for most of Sunday while police conducted their investigation.

A manager at the hostel mentioned that the surviving victim was a front desk clerk. The deceased man was discovered outside the building, she mentioned.

Police were frequently entering and leaving the hostel on Sunday, and a guest reported that a fourth-floor bathroom was cordoned off with police tape.

A long-term resident of the hostel mentioned that the apprehended man had been residing at the hostel for several months. He thought the victim had also been staying at the hostel, but he was not acquainted with him.
