Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) gave some advice to Republicans seeking to rename an airport for former President Donald Trump.
Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) and six cosponsors introduced a bill that would rename Loudon County’s Dulles International Airport for the 45th president. The airport, which serves as Washington, D.C.’s international hub, is named for John Foster Dulles, who served as secretary of State during the Eisenhower administration.
“In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump,” Reschenthaler told Fox News Digital. “As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil.”
Connolly took to social media to share a different perspective.
“Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges,” he tweeted. “If Republicans want to name something after him, I’d suggest they find a federal prison.”
Trump currently faces 88 criminal counts (three have since been dropped) in four jurisdictions, including two at the federal level. The former president, who is the presumptive Republican nominee, has pleaded not guilty to all charges. Two of those cases – one federal – stem from his attempt to overthrow the 2020 election, which he lost. Another centers on what the U.S. Department of Justice says was Trump’s retention of classified documents after leaving office and his efforts to obstruct their recovery. In a fourth case, which is set to begin on April 15, Trump faces 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush money payments allegedly made to cover up extramarital affairs.
