Fox News host Greg Gutfeld led all of cable news with younger viewers in the first quarter of 2024, a first for Gutfeld!

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld was the leader in cable news for younger viewers in the first quarter of 2024, a first for his prime time program Gutfeld!

Gutfeld, whose show is a mix of late-night political satire and a news-focused panel discussion, had an average of over 304,000 nightly viewers in the key 25-54 age group that advertisers target.

Jesse Watters, Gutfeld’s co-host on The Five (the top-rated show in cable news in terms of total viewers), came in second place in the quarter with 284,000 viewers. The Five, Hannity, and The Ingraham Angle were also among the top five shows in the age group on all of cable news. The highest-rated non-Fox News program in the age group was the 9 p.m. hour on MSNBC, with Rachel Maddow hosting on Mondays and Alex Wagner hosting the rest of the week, drawing an average of 153,000 viewers in the age group.

Gutfeld’s dominance among younger television viewers extended beyond cable news, as he outperformed all but two of his late-night rivals on broadcast TV, which is available in more homes.

Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and The Daily Show all had fewer viewers in the age group compared to Gutfeld, while Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon had more with 344,000 and 321,000 viewers, respectively. Gutfeld does surpass all of his late-night competition in terms of total viewers, averaging 2.2 million for the quarter, while Colbert came in second with just under 2 million. Gutfeld! does have an advantage in its time slot over most late-night programs, as it airs across the country from New York City at 10 p.m., which is 7 p.m. on the West Coast. The traditional late night shows all air after 11 p.m.

Jon Stewart’s return to The Daily Show on Monday nights was a ratings success, bringing in the most viewers in six years. The ratings declined, however, as his show on March 26th had only 849,000 total viewers and 256,000 viewers in the age group. Fox News host Greg Gutfeld led all of cable news with younger viewers in the first quarter of 2024, a first for Gutfeld!
