Venezuela denounces Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, calling it an instance of irrational Israeli actions, said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil.

Israeli air forces struck the Iranian consulate in Damascus on Monday evening, destroying the building and causing fatalities.

“Venezuela strongly condemns the missile attack carried out by Israel against the diplomatic and consular headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran located in… Damascus, which is another example of the irrationality of the Zionist regime, which has become the greatest source of instability in theregion,” Gil wrote on the social network X.

The minister expressed support for the governments of Iran and Syria, and offered condolences to the victims' families.
Syrian state TV initially reported a defense against an attack near Damascus, with subsequent reports confirming an Israeli strike in the Al-Mezza area of southwest Damascus.

A missile strike from Israel hit a residence near the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, resulting in damage to the diplomatic mission building and causing at least two deaths, according to a Syrian security source.

Iranian media revealed that the Israeli airstrike affected the consulate general building and the ambassador's residence of Iran in Damascus. The ambassador was unharmed, but between five and seven individuals were reported killed and 12 injured in the attack.


Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani stated that Iran reserves the right to retaliate against Israel's airstrike on the republic's consulate general in Damascus, and will determine the appropriate punishment for the aggressor.
