Penguins bring back goalie Joel Blomvqist, send forward Sam Poulin down

The Pittsburgh Penguins recalled rookie goaltender Joel Blomqvist from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Penguins brought back their new goalie Joel Blomqvist from the American Hockey League team Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The team made this move after their All-Star goalie Tristan Jarry couldn't play due to an unknown illness in a 5-2 win against the New York Rangers. This was reported by the team's social media account.

Blomqvist, who is from Finland, catches with his left hand and is in his first full season in North America. He has played 40 AHL games, with a 22-10-6 record, a 2.15 goals against average, a .919 save percentage, and one shutout. He was also the only player from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL's All-Star Classic in February.

This is Blomqvist's second time being called up to the NHL roster this season. He was called up on November 9, served as a backup for one game, and then returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on November 11.

Blomqvist, who is 6-foot-2, 187 pounds, was drafted in the second round in 2020 and is in the first year of a three-year entry-level contract that pays $886,667.

In a related move, the team sent rookie forward Sam Poulin down to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Poulin, who was called up to the NHL roster on March 26, has played in three games for the Pittsburgh Penguins this season, with no points, and has averaged 7:47 of ice time. He was not in the lineup for Monday's game.

With Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Poulin, who is left-handed and 6-foot-2, 213 pounds, has played in 36 games and has 27 points (13 goals, 14 assists).

Poulin, who was the 21st overall pick in 2021, is 23 years old and is in the last year of a three-year entry-level contract that pays $863,333.
