A person on a scooter has died in the hospital weeks after being in a hit-and-run crash with a van, according to VPD

Vancouver police are requesting the driver of a Dodge box van involved in the fatal crash to come forward

Authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver from a collision last month. A 66-year-old man who got hit has passed away in the hospital.

The man was riding a motorized kick scooter heading west on Union Street towards Main Street just after 3 p.m. on March 7 when he got hit by an older box-style Dodge van in the eastbound lane of Main.

The injured person was quickly taken to the hospital but succumbed to their injuries two weeks after the accident.

The driver drove away before the police arrived.

Const. Tania Visintin mentioned in a news release on Tuesday that VPD’s collision investigation unit started an investigation immediately and managed to find the box van.

“Investigators now need to talk to the van's driver, and anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage from the area where it happened.”

They are asking anyone who can assist with the investigation to contact crash investigators at 604-717-3012.
