The price of gas at the pump in Metro Vancouver has reached nearly $2.09 per liter following an increase in the B.C. carbon tax

Gas prices had already been creeping up before and during the Easter long weekend but went up again on Monday due to the carbon tax increase.

On Monday morning, gas prices in Metro Vancouver went up to almost $2.09 per liter due to the implementation of B.C.'s carbon tax hike.

As of April 1, B.C. increased the carbon tax by 23 percent, raising it from $65 to $80 per tonne, which the B.C. NDP stated would result in an approximately three-cent-per-liter increase.

Gas prices had already been rising before and during the Easter long weekend.

There are a couple of gas stations selling gas for slightly less than $2.09 per liter.

The Super Save Gas Station on 12th Avenue in East Vancouver is charging an average of $2.069 per liter. Some Esso stations are displaying a price of $2.03 per liter. The Esso station at East Hastings and Skeena is pricing gas at $2.089 per liter.

According to Gasbuddy.com, the Chevron gas station on Fraser Highway in Aldergrove is selling gas for $1.959 per liter this morning. However, when Postmedia contacted them to confirm, an attendant declined to discuss gas prices over the phone.

More information to be provided later.
