A woman stayed in jail on Monday following a deadly shooting in a Duquesne apartment after a weekend argument, leading to her arrest.

Latiya Hicks, 24, of Braddock, has been accused by the police of killing Lamont Nichols, 30, of Pittsburgh on Saturday evening in a public housing apartment building on North Second Street.

According to a criminal complaint, Hicks and another woman, Kisstamin Davis, were in Tamika Warrick’s unit in the Harry S. Truman Apartments when Warrick and Nichols arrived around 6 p.m.

It was not clear from the court paperwork why the women were in Warrick’s apartment, but police said that Davis and Nichols have a daughter together.

Due to unspecified “past problems,” Warrick asked Hicks to leave, sparking an argument between the two women.

Nichols intervened, telling Hicks and Davis that they were not welcome, as per the complaint.

Both Warrick and Davis informed the police that Hicks pulled out a gun and shot Nichols.

Davis stated that Hicks fired as Nichols began walking toward her.

The complaint mentioned that surveillance footage from the Allegheny County Housing Authority indicated that Hicks was standing in the doorway of Apartment #404, with the footage capturing a gun muzzle flash.

The police highlighted in the complaint that Hicks could have left the apartment with no obstacles.

At 6:12 p.m., Duquesne police were called, and two officers discovered Hicks and Davis in the hallway.

According to the complaint, Hicks admitted to the police that she shot Nichols.

Nichols, who was shot once in the chest, was declared dead at the scene at 6:23 p.m.

The police mentioned that records indicate Hicks purchased the 9-mm handgun last June.

Hicks was charged with criminal homicide by the Allegheny County Police.

She was transported to the Allegheny County Jail and was arraigned early Sunday, with her bail being denied by a judge.

Hicks’ preliminary hearing is set for April 12, and her attorney's details were not listed in the court record.
