Two teenagers were given prison sentences for confessing to committing first-degree assault in relation to a shooting near a Brighton high school.

Two teenagers were given prison sentences for confessing to committing first-degree assault in relation to a shooting near a Brighton high school.

According to records from Adams County District Court, Dakarei Edwards, 18, and Jayden Garcia, 17, admitted to committing first-degree assault causing serious bodily harm. Each of them was given four years in juvenile detention and 12 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

One someone got hurt in the shooting.

The two were part of a shooting on March 15, 2023, at 9th Avenue and Bush Street, a few blocks north of Brighton High School.

Police responded to reports of gunshots and found bullet casings at 9th Avenue and Bush Street, a couple of blocks north of Brighton High School, as per the police statement on the day of the shooting. The suspects were stopped while driving near Prairie View High School and were arrested shortly after the shooting.

Several schools were put on lockdown or implemented other safety measures following the shooting.
