A top Republican is speaking out about the 'radical individuals' in the House GOP's chaos caucus just as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is making threats to remove against House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).
During an interview on CBS' Face the Nation with Ed O'Keefe on Sunday, Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) — who chairs the House Intelligence Committee — criticized those who are obstructing Johnson's efforts to bring a Ukraine aid package to the floor.
“Sadly, the Chaos Caucus continues to oppose everything in Congress,” Turner stated. “They don't offer an alternative plan. They simply oppose necessary measures… This is crucial for national security.”
Turner mentioned that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) will not support any initiative to remove the speaker with Republicans.
“[Jeffries] has made it absolutely clear that he will not join with rebels in the Republican side to take down Speaker Johnson on this,” Turner said. “And I think, we’re certainly going to see, broad support in Congress to get this job done.”
O’Keefe brought up the 20 Republicans who have left the House during the current Congress and asked Turner if others are considering leaving. Turner said he does not know of any, and gave a broader commentary on the situation in the House.
“It shows that we can have radical fringes, even radical individuals — who don’t really have an ideology or an agenda other than chaos — that can cause disruptions,” Turner said. “And that’s what we have seen. That certainly makes it difficult for people who just want to get the job done.”
