Jackson Huss had 2 hits in 3 at-bats and brought in four runs to lead the Norwin baseball team to a 9-4 win away at Pine-Richland.
Matt O’Neil got a hit and two RBIs for Norwin in their first win of the season.
The Knights were ready to start playing in their section, where Class 6A teams play three-game series.
Softball underway
Despite cold temperatures and wet field conditions, Norwin softball had a 1-1 record after its first two games.
The season opener ended in a 6-2 win over Mt. Pleasant, with the Lady Knights scoring five times in the top of the seventh. Diem Wardzinski and Josey Michalski hit home runs, and Michalski also had a double.
In a 4-3 loss at Connellsville, Bailey Snowberger had 2 hits in 4 at-bats including a double, while Michalski and Rachel Minteer hit home runs.
At the net
Jackson Genicola achieved a career-high of 29 kills to lead the Norwin boys volleyball team to a 3-2 win over Baldwin in the opening game. Troy Horvath had 45 assists, and Lucas Churchfield made 19 digs in the win.
Norwin went on to win its 17-team tournament, taking the Gold Division with a 28-20 win against Butler in the finals. The Knights defeated Thomas Jefferson and Altoona to reach the title match.
Tennis falls
Norwin’s boys tennis team lost 4-1 to Mt. Pleasant.
The only victory for the Knights came at No. 2 doubles where Jaxson Momeyer and Daniel Metzger teamed up for a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nico Pisula and Tyler Kurtz.
