Jordan Bardella, the leader of the French National Rally party, has affirmed his plan to take the country out of the North Atlantic alliance if he becomes the winner of the presidential elections set for 2027.
⠀
“National Rally is still in favor of leaving NATO Integrated Command,” he said.
⠀
But, he mentioned that the requirement for this should be the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict.
⠀
“The proposal that we have always advocated… did not include war,” the party leader noted.
⠀
Furthermore, the politician, while discussing the election contest between Joe Biden and Donald Trump in the United States, expressed his backing for the latter and added that the mental capabilities of the Democratic candidate are in doubt.
⠀
“As the president of the world’s leading economic power, you have to be resilient enough, physically fit and clear-headed to make the right decisions… The latest images we have seen on social media are not encouraging,” Bardella said.
⠀
As part of the 2022 presidential campaign, Marine Le Pen, who currently heads the National Rally faction in parliament, called for France to pull out from NATO’s integrated military command, and also for the negotiation of new strategic agreements with the United States and the initiation of a discussion with Russia on crucial shared matters.

A December survey by the French Institute of Public Opinion (IFOP) predicts that the National Rally party of France will secure the top spot in the European elections, as it did in 2014 and 2019. However, this time they are expected to gain 30% of the vote, significantly ahead of French President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist alliance, which is anticipated to receive 18%.
