A man from Penn Hills was arrested by Pittsburgh Police for being involved in a string of recent robberies in the area.
Authorities were looking into an armed robbery that occurred on March 2 at a bus stop near the Sunoco station on Penn Avenue in Homewood. The security footage from the Sunoco station, which was reviewed on March 6, revealed that the robbers were in a black Acura sedan that had been reported stolen, according to a criminal complaint.
In the footage, one of the suspects removed his mask, and officers from the city’s robbery unit identified him as Anthony James Jr., 26, from Penn Hills.
Police mentioned that James has distinct almond-shaped eyes and a small scar on the bridge of his nose. They also stated that audio and video recordings from a device in the stolen car captured James and another person discussing and carrying out the March 2 robbery.
James was apprehended early Thursday morning at a residence on the 6500 block of Deary Street after police received information that an Apple Airtag attached to the car’s keys was indicating that it was there. Clothing and other items related to the robbery, along with four firearms, were discovered at the residence.
James is facing charges of robbery, theft, receiving stolen property, assault, criminal conspiracy, and unlawful use of a vehicle.
He was refused bail and taken to the Allegheny County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 4 in District Judge James Hanley Jr’s Pittsburgh court.
